Yesterday was a monumental day. After being on my Netflix queue for over 2 years, I finally finished the last episode (number 272) of Law and Order: SVU and removed it from my queue. (Note: I’m currently watching episode 283 as I write this–there are 11 episodes of the current season)
Call me loyal or call me obsessed, but I freaking love this show. Detective Olivia Benson is a bad ass and my hero. Seriously, she rocks.
I’m not sure what it is about the show but I’m hooked. The characters, the twisted storyline, the chills that go down my spine: the show has it all. I used to watch the show all the time. I’d be working and it would play in the background. It became part of my winding down ritual: change into pjs, brush my teeth and watch an episode of SVU. It was my companion when I was living alone when I was in between roommates. (That is until I started getting freaked out because I was watching a show about serial rapists while I lived alone. Not my smartest idea.) When my new roommate moved in, she was quickly able to peg my tv style because the show was always playing (and whether she admits it or not, I think I got her to jump on the bandwagon too.) It sparked conversation and discussion at the dinner table. It made even more protective of my younger cousins and nephews and nieces, heck all kids, after being exposed to all of the sick people that are out there. And now…I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do.
Sure, there are some other shows on my radar that I’ve been meaning to start watching: Entourage, The Wire, Prison Break… Will another show be “better”? Maybe, but Law&Order SVU will always have a special place in my heart. Thank goodness for new episodes and for re-runs. Though if Olivia Benson ever leaves the show, I’m not sure what I’ll do.
