I arrived in Israel on Friday afternoon, eager to be reunited with my friends, Chad and Tyler, and excited about starting our sail on Saturday. Except there was one small, yet big, problem: the paperwork with the ownership of the boat hadn’t arrived. Without this paperwork we can’t leave the marina. (Well, we can but we’d get arrested and thrown into jail because it would appear as if we were stealing the boat. I’m all for adventure, but not that kind of adventure.) So, we’re “stranded” on this beautiful boat in this beautiful country–things could be worse, though we are eager to get started on our voyage.
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the boat and what it looks like and how it works—let me take you on a little tour. The boat, currently named Dewswimmer (it’ll be changed to Tell Star), is a 62 Lagoon Catamaran. It has four cabins (rooms), 5 heads (bathrooms), and a nicer galley (kitchen) than my old apartment. It can comfortably sleep 12 (8 for charters because you have to take the crew into consideration), has a jet ski in the back, and a tender (dinghy) with an engine many small boat owners would be jealous of. With Bose speakers throughout, TVs in each cabin (and a main one in the salon [living room]), and two outdoor levels for you to bask in the sun or look out on the water, I feel like this is a hotel on water instead of a boat. (Think Ritz Carlton, not Super 8). But don’t take my word for it, here’s a little tour of the boat for you.

It’s a lovely boat but we can’t wait to get it out on the water. (I imagine I will get seasick but I’m ready for it.) Luckily we have had the chance to explore Israel (Chad and Tyler have never been) but we’re starting to get eager and antsy to leave. The winds are changing so every day we aren’t able to leave is another day we miss out on good conditions. For the first time in my life, I don’t have a schedule/target date, so living in uncertainty has been interesting. Send us good vibes!

Such a huge place. You guys will be living a boss’s life for the next little while. Thanks for the tour.
Indeed! It’s bigger than a lot of places that I’ve lived in and much bigger than any other sailboat that I’ve been on. We’re eager to get this bad boy on the water and start our sail, that’s for sure.

[…] Paperwork is a pain in the rear. Long story short, paperwork that was supposed to be done by the selling party didn’t get done so when my friends arrived in Israel, they were faced with the daunting task of figuring out the status of our paperwork and what needed to get done. Mind you that there were people from the US, Israel, Russia and the Caribbean involved, with a language barrier, a different work week (Sunday – Thursday in Israel), during a religious holiday (Passover/Easter). So we’ve basically been stranded in the marina. […]
