My last attempt at blogging regularly again was back in April and it lasted a whole two weeks. Not my best work, not even close but I chose to be distracted by things and people instead of prioritizing what made me most happy and fulfilled. When I was sailing last year, I felt incredible. It’s AMAZING what good sleep, great company, and working your brainย (for me that was through reading and writing daily) can do for your mind, body and soul. Funny enough, those are all things that I can do anywhere, anytime, if I choose to do so. So here I am, trying again, to do what makes me feel my best. And I might still fail, again, but you can bet that I’ll keep trying until I find something that works for me.
I read somewhere that it can take 18 – 254 days (yes, two hundred and fifty-four, that’s not a typo) for something to become a habit. While I’m in no way, form, or shape committing to blogging for 254 days, I think it’s time I do my own version of NoBloPoMo and try to blog through the month of September. Why September? Well, for starters, it’s conveniently today and I found myself with time today to write again. I was born in September so it seems like an appropriate time for change and reflection. And seasonally, it’s a time of transition. Besides all that, why not September? After all, the whole premise of my blog is to starting someday today ๐Ÿ™‚

In Sejal fashion, I’m going to share 5 thingsย three things (gotta run and make my flight back to Portland!) that have happened since I last blogged:

  1. I’m currently in Chicago, for the second time this year and second time this summer. A friend got married in Louisville this weekend and instead of flying in and out of Louisville, I decided to come to Chicago before and after the wedding (it was cheaper to fly into) and catch a ride down to Kentucky for the wedding. My time in Chicago this time around was limited but I got to see a few friends, which is always nice!ย Screen Shot 2015-09-01 at 10.44.33 AM
  2. When I got back from Bali in May, there were two things I really wanted to focus on: fitness and finances. I’m not going to lie, the finances are stretched, but I’m making do. It’s still a work in progress and something I need to devote more time and energy to. Fitness, on the other hand, is going well! (Not as well as I’d hope, but that’s the impatience talking.) I’ve become a regular at my 7:15am Corepower Yoga Sculpt class, I’ve bypassed naps during weekend wedding trips to hit the gym (even if only for 30 minutes on Stairmaster) and I’ve even sacrificed sleep during my trips to Chicago to go to 6am classes with my friend (her schedule is crazy and I come home, eat, shower and nap afterwards). While I’ve definitely increased my activity level way, way, WAY up, I need to get back in the kitchen and work on the nutrition piece.

Survived (and actually kind of dominated?) another Yoga Sculpt class with one of my besties!

  3. Speaking of fitness, I went on my first hike-camp-hike trip this summer and summited Mount Adams! I hope to blog about the experience later but long story short, my friends took me on a camping trip to prepare for a St. Helen’s hike we had permits for. Little did I know that our ‘training’ trip would be tougher than the hike we were prepping for. And by tougher, I mean that at the half-way point where we camped, we were level with the top of St. Helen’s.ย By far, this was the most physically challenging thing I have ever done. I almost quit (twice), I held back tears (only because I knew they would freeze because of the wind), and every part of my body hurt. But I did it!

At the end of Day 1 of climbing Mount Adams. That's St. Helen's in the distance.

The first step is always the toughest, or something like that. Maybe the same can be said of the first post. Off to the airport I go!

  3. Hi Sejal,So great to hear about your life journey as always. ๐Ÿ™‚ Fitness and finances are sticky business and I envy those that have mastered it! I’m on the journey too. One great site I found out about was http://www.getyourshittogether.org. The name is really what it’s about. It’s helped me do the fundamentals and I’m still getting them together!

Would love to join you for a yoga class in the future. Perhaps after I recover from foot surgery at end of September. Text me!
    Kim

    1. Kim, are there people who have mastered both? I feel like mastery is such a distant thought that if I can just think about either and not feel too overwhelmed, I’ll be in a good position. Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out! I’m always game for yoga with a friend. Post surgery it is! Good luck, sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery!
