Can People Change?

I read somewhere that every cells are replaced in our body every 7 years, so in a way, every 7 years we’re a new person. But are we really? We grow and we change, but how much of that is real change and how much of who we are is the same? Every time I’ve moved, or started a new job, or met a new person, is a new opportunity to redefine myself, to make that first impression. And while we do change, to an extent, through growth and experience, how much do we really change?

I came across this on my Instagram feed this morning and came across this post. Whoa.

When friends from different chapters and moments of your life meet, they have different stories and experiences to share that showcase the different sides of you, but you’ll also hear them talking about some common threads between their time and relationship with you. At the core, do we remain who we are throughout our life even though we grow and adjust based on experience?

I think we are capable of changing, that people can change. There are moments, like the one shared in the picture, that inevitably change us forever. But even with that change, at our core there are some parts of us that will always remain the same. What do you think? Can people change? What changes us?

What a message. What a reminder. What a thought.
